why are there so few nail salons in d.c.? WHAT is up with that? someone please explain. i know there are some really expensive spas that do nails but those places aren't realistic options for for average d.c. woman. do women here not get pedicures? is there low supply because there's low demand? we've hit full-blown sandal season and this could get ugly....
after searching on daily candy, citysearch and then just hitting the pavement walking miles and miles and miles around dupont and downtown in search of a nail salon or any freakin' salon that would give me a pedicure, i found (or found out about) the following:
- ACE Nails (17th & R): this place is a bit ghetto. it's the classic, no frills, korean-run, seems-kinda-clean-but-kinda-not nail salon. initially i was amazed at how busy they were but after learning about the dirth of nail salons in d.c., i get it. pedicure = $28
- S/p/alon (on 17th nr Q): i didn't actually try this one yet because i found it right after getting my ghetto pedicure at ACE. it looked decent and it was cheap. pedicure = $25.
- Q West Nails (on 18th): i've heard mixed reviews about this place. one friend goes there and is happy with them but another person got a toe infection after getting a pedicure there. i think i'll pass on the toe infection.
- Lovely Nails (20th & Florida): my d.c. guru told me about this place. i should have called him after the first couple miles of wandering around but i was stubborn and determined to be self-sufficient and felt silly calling a boy looking for a pedicure. i know nothing about this place but my d.c. guru hasn't failed me yet, so i think i'll try this next.
